The Basics: Powering Up Wisely
These basic facts and tips will help ensure the most memorable GiftCard
Experience:
 |
Prepaid Value: The prepaid value of your card is your
spending limit. If for any reason (e.g., you've made a purchase or two) you're
unsure of your card's remaining value, then take a moment to access your
account balance. It's quick and you can do it anytime. Simply visit
www.MyCardEx.com or call 1.888.801.3770. By checking your balance
regularly, you're better prepared for each transaction.
|
 |
In-Store Purchases: When you're ready to make a purchase,
hand your GiftCard over to the store cashier or sales associate. They'll run it
through their machine to capture the necessary card account information. Some
stores may require you to personally swipe your GiftCard. That's fine, go
ahead. Your information will be captured, and remember, such instances do not
require a PIN number to make purchases.
|
 |
No Cash Back: You will not receive cash back on your
purchases. Your GiftCard is prepaid. This means that with each purchase, that
exact purchase amount is deducted from your available balance until that
balance reaches zero. For example, if your available balance is $50 and you buy
a $40 shirt, the resulting $10 difference will remain on your card for future
use. However, if the shirt you desire costs $60, that exceeds your available
balance by $10, and your card will be declined. However, you can still buy the
shirt. You'll have to make up the $10 difference by combining payment methods;
your GiftCard, plus whatever payment method the store typically accepts - cash,
credit card, check, etc. Try to maintain an awareness of your available
balance. This will let you know in advance, if you'll ever have to combine
payment methods. Also see "Declined Cards," below.
|
 |
Online Purchases: Here's where the power in your hand
extends to your fingertips. Point and click toward your favorite online
merchants. When you find something you like, type in the required GiftCard
information to seal the deal.
|
 |
Declined Cards: If a merchant declines your GiftCard, it's
possible that the card has insufficient funds. The best way to avoid this
situation is to check your available balance in advance of trying to use your
card. Before you leave home, take a moment to visit
www.MyCardEx.com or call 1.888.801.3770. In the event that your card is
declined, but you're confident that sufficient funds exist, please give us a
call. We'll be happy to review your account information. Also see "In-Store
Purchases" and "Power at the Pump."
|
 |
Lost/Stolen/Destroyed Cards: Don't let anything or anyone
disrupt your GiftCard Experience. If your GiftCard is ever lost, stolen, or
destroyed, immediately call Customer Service at 1.888.801.3770; 24-hours a day,
seven days a week. A replacement card will be sent to you, minus a reissue fee
that will be deducted from the card balance. As long as the problem is reported immediately,
you will not be responsible for any unauthorized charges. Please review the
attached Terms and Conditions document for additional information.
|
 |
Registration: Enhance your power and give yourself peace of
mind for the entire life of your GiftCard - register your GiftCard at
www.CardEx.com. Registering is as easy as typing in your e-mail address
and a password. Most importantly, registering your card allows an on-line
merchant to verify your address and process your Internet order. In addition,
it secures the value of your card if it's ever lost, stolen, or destroyed. If
something happens to your registered card, report the problem to
1.888.801.3770; 24-hours a day, seven days a week. We'll freeze the remaining
balance on your missing card at the time of your call, and mail you a
replacement card. |
Power Drain: GiftCard Expiration
Amazingly, instead of using their purchasing power, some people lose it. Don't
let your GiftCard Experience end before it begins. Your GiftCard is valid for 6
months. Please review and save your GiftCard's Terms and Conditions (on the
reverse side of this form) for more information. Make a mental note of the
expiration date, but also keep this form in a safe place for future reference.
Beyond the expiration date, a monthly maintenance fee of $5.00 will be assessed
beginning in the seventh month after the card issue date, and continuing until
the remaining value is depleted.
If you still have funds available at expiration, you can either request a new
GiftCard or a refund check. We will issue a new GiftCard and mail it to you
with the remaining balance on your account, minus a GiftCard Issuance Fee. If
you choose to receive a refund check, your remaining funds - minus a Check
Issuance Fee - will be distributed by check within four to six weeks.
Please review the Terms and Conditions document for additional information on
card fees.
Power at the Pump? Power Lunch?
Your GiftCard can be used at gas stations and restaurants. Please note however,
that these establishments deduct funds from your card differently than others.
Specifically, when paying at the pump, the pump automatically authorizes a
pre-defined amount (typically $25-$50) on your GiftCard, regardless of your
purchase amount. This pre-defined amount is "held" until the actual
authorization amount has settled (up to 5 days). Once the actual authorization
has settled and your card debited, the pre-authorized amount is credited back
into your account. To avoid any delays, present your GiftCard directly to the
gas station attendant, rather than using the automated pumps.
Restaurants program their card terminals to account for the food server's tip
amount (usually between 15%-25%) based on a percentage of the total food bill.
The purpose of this is to ensure that you have funds available to cover the
total of your food bill plus tip. You won't be charged this "up charge" should
you pay a different tip amount or pay the tip in cash (your GiftCard balance
will reflect the total that you sign on the restaurant receipt). Also, in
addition to the amount the restaurant programs, many food servers unknowingly
"up charge" the food bill again. Thus, the final attempted amount for
authorization (food bill, including tip) can sometimes exceed your available
GiftCard balance, leading to your card being declined. To avoid the "up charge"
at restaurants, consider keeping your food bill less than 50% of your GiftCard
balance or simply restrict your GiftCard use to purchases at retail
stores.
